TyStreamer

Streaming TiVo programs over limited bandwidth networks on-the-fly in real-time

about tystreamer

tystreamer is a proxy server which pulls programs from your TiVo and re-streams them to the client at a lower bit-rate so that it can be viewed in real-time over bandwidth-challenged network connections, such as 802.11b or the internet. It does this by using VideoLAN Client with tivo-specific plugins to re-encode the video in real-time and stream it to the client as Flash Video. TyStreamer has been tested on Mac OS X 10.4 (Tiger).

10/02/2007 - tystreamer v3.0b1 released - "Flash! ah-AH!"
Initial release of TyStreamer 3.0! Major feature enhancements. It all "just works" even better! New features include:

  • now streams Flash Video format with included FlowPlayer Flash plugin! works with any Flash-capable browser
  • stream video from multiple sources. got two TiVos? stream from either!
  • stream video files from your computer
  • greatly simplified UI
  • Mac OS X support is back!
  • improved security with sessions support

Known Issues:

  • Windows is not yet supported as a server; only *NIX based solutions with stdin support. *FIXED*
  • Requires vstream-client patched for stdout; not necessarily an issue, but certainly an additional requirement

See the CHANGELOG for more details.

Bug Fix! - An update to the vstream-client patch broke the current build of TyStreamer, and I fixed the Windows bug (I think). Download 3.0b1.1 for fixes.

10/29/2005 - tystreamer v2.0 released - "It would take a Miracle!"
Stable release of TyStreamer 2.0! From 2.0b1, minor bug fix and usability improvements. It all just works! New features include:

  • simpler to kill streaming, better stream detection
  • audio issues with WMP fixed (thanks to tmembrino)
  • stream-size drop-down fix
  • minor usability updates

Known Issues:

  • Mac OS X is currently not supported. This is an issue with VLC on Mac. VLC on Mac OS X will only run while logged into a gui session, and will not run from the web server session. It's possible that a special build of VLC can be used to support TyStreamer, but this is still in development.

See the CHANGELOG for more details.

  • simpler code base
  • simpler PHP requirements (4.2.0 and higher should work)
  • moving streaming to vlc fixes *many* server-specific issues
  • Windows Media Player support!

See the CHANGELOG for more details.
